Week-one blowouts fooled the market again

Four ranked teams covered thirty or more in their openers, all against bodies — FCS visitors and rebuilding G5 programs that took a check to be there. By Sunday night, the market had moved every one of their week-two lines as if it learned something. It didn’t.

Blowouts against overmatched opponents carry almost no predictive weight. The play style never gets stress-tested: no second-half adjustments, no third-and-long script, backups by the middle of the third quarter. What the market is pricing is a highlight reel.

Where the overreaction is priced

Two of those four teams open this week against opponents who can actually tackle, and both lines moved a field goal past where power ratings put them. That’s the fade. The number I care about isn’t the one on the screen now — it’s the one this line closes at, and I want to be on the right side before the market sobers up.
